New York restaurants get touch of Korean spice
Korean touches are being introduced to dishes
at major restaurants located in the Big Apple, according to the Ministry for
Food, Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries.
Jean Georges, who has three Michelin stars, started to provide fusion Korean
food like pepper paste & butter steak and kimchi
hotdogs at his New York restaurants Perry St. and Mercer Kitchen.
Georges, who also owns 20 restaurants around the globe, won attention in Korea
after making appearance in the program ¡°Kimchi
Chronicles,¡± aired by American broadcasting station PBS.
David Chang, who has two Michelin stars, also provides Korean-style boiled pork
and kimchi steak at his Momofuku
Ssam Bar in New York.
Angelo Sosa, another popular cook from TV program ¡°Top Chef,¡± sells
bibimbap (mixed rice) and bulgogi
(Korean-style barbeque) burgers at Social Eatz, and
the two dishes account for 35 percent of the store¡¯s sales.
His famous burgers also won the grand prize at Eater¡¯s Greatest Burger in
America Contest.
Meanwhile, the Food Ministry hosted an event at Sosa¡¯s restaurant on last
Wednesday and invited local press and food bloggers, introducing different
kinds of Korean dishes.
